Using Our Facilities - Frequently Asked Questions

Who may use Sixth & I's facilities?

The Sixth & I sanctuary and other facilities are available for Jewish activities, ceremonies and receptions.

What spaces are available for an event? May I reserve them all together?

The sanctuary, social hall and multi-purpose room are available to rent for an event. To see floor layouts and get information about the capacity of each of these spaces, click here. You are encouraged to reserve the spaces together.

Upon what is the pricing based?

Our pricing is based on the amount of time you will be in the building, the spaces you use and whether or not you rent our tables and chairs, which are charged after the event.

For what times may I reserve a space?

We have three “time slots” available for renting space at Sixth & I: two six hour time slots, including a “morning/afternoon” in which the event must be finished no later than 4:00 p.m.; an “evening” time slot in which the event must begin no earlier than 4:00 p.m.; and a “day-rate” option in which the synagogue building is yours for the entire day.

How can I reserve a date? How many dates may I reserve at once?

We can hold a date and time slot tentatively for 30 days without charge, but we cannot guarantee a date and time slot without a rental deposit, which is half of the rental fee. We can hold only one date and time slot at a time.

What is your kasruth policy? May I bring in catered food?

Any food brought into the synagogue has to be strictly kosher. If it is prepared ahead of time it must be sealed with kosher tape or have an OU (or appropriate kasruth) symbol on it to come into the building. If there is any cooking done on the premises, it must be supervised by a mashgiah.

Does the rabbi or Jewish officiant have to be of a specific denomination?

The Rabbi or Jewish officiant does not have to be of a specific denomination, since we are an unaffiliated synagogue. We do ask that if rabbis/Jewish officiants are not local, they fax or mail a copy of their ordination certificates to us.

Are there other restrictions we should take into account?

No food or drink is allowed in the sanctuary. Any equipment brought into the synagogue (e.g., flowers, a chuppah, a dance floor) must be taken out the same day unless other arrangements are made with the staff ahead of time. Additional charges will be assessed for equipment left behind. If you are planning on dropping petals during a wedding, we require a runner. No candy or candy-throwing is permitted at a bar/bat mitzvah celebration. Also, please note that we are not currently ADA accessible.
