River City Extension was formed by Joe Michelini, a longtime fixture in the New Jersey songwriting scene who began piecing together a small acoustic band in late 2007. The group eventually ballooned into an 8-member ensemble, capable of turning out folk ballads one minute and skittish gypsy punk the next.

By the spring of 2010, River City Extension had signed with XOXO Records (home to fellow Jersey natives the Gaslight Anthem), and released their debut album, The Unmistakable Man. The album received accolades from Paste, NPR, Spin and Alternative Press and by 2011, the band was playing some of the world’s biggest festivals, and with artists ranging from The Avett Brothers to The Get Up Kids.

Now set to release their sophomore album, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Your Anger, the indie-folk-rock group takes their powerful live performance to our Downstairs stage.
